El Dr. Gaston de la Garza realizó su entrenamiento en trasplantes de cabello en 1991, de la mano de grandes pioneros de esta técnica, como los doctores Bernstein, Rassman y el doctor Bob Limer, trayendo esa técnica a México. Gardel Hair Restoration Institute surgió en 1994 ya como una clínica especializada en trasplante de cabello, incorporando los avances últimos avances técnicos de la época.

En 1998, un grupo internacional de expertos (I.S.H.R.S.) unificó lo que serían los fundamentos de la revolucionaria técnica. Desde entonces el transplante folicular ganó impulso, haciéndose popular en Estados Unidos, Canadá y toda Europa, siendo hasta el día de hoy la mejor opción en el trasplante capilar.

Egresa de la Escuela Médico Militar en la Ciudad de México, D.F. en 1981 con el grado de Mayor Médico Cirujano. Concluye su Internado Rotatorio y de Postgrado en el Hospital Central Militar en 1982.

Inicia su Residencia de Cirugía General en el Hospital Militar de Guadalajara Jalisco, concluyendo en 1985.

Emprende su residencia para titularse como cirujano plástico en el Instituto Jalisciense de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva “José Guerrero Santos”, culminando con mención honorífica sus estudios en 1988.

En 1989 cursa su posgrado en la facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de California: “Felowship Plastic Surgery”.

Para ese entonces, ya en 1990 forma el grupo de transplante de cabello en la ciudad de Tijuana, B.C. y recibe la más intensa y minuciosa capacitación de manos de dos de los mejores maestros a nivel mundial en el arte del micro transplante de cabello, el Dr. William Rassman y el Dr. Robert Berstein.

Finalmente en 1994, cumple con su meta al inaugurar Gardel Hair Restoration Institute y Gardel Plastic Surgery en Tijuana, B.C, Mexico.

En México, Gardel Hair Restoration Institue es pionero en el uso del microscopio biaural de alta resolución desde 1998, así como la práctica de la realización de Megasesiones.

90% of baldness cases are considered as ‘androgenetic baldness’ and this is hereditary, i.e. it is determined by the genetic information of the individual and transferred from father or mother to the sons or daughters and thus in turn to the following generations. However, there are other cases of baldness, which do not correspond to this type.

As long as the person conserves hair even if it is thin or fine, there are nowadays medical treatments to revert this condition as long as the person has hair, otherwise the only thing that could solve the baldness is the hair micro-grafting.

From experience we know that these people who start their hair loss at a very young age, most of the time (60%) will unfortunately develop very pronounced baldness. It is therefore of the utmost importance to carry out a thorough examination of their baldness and their head to detect to what degree it is going to evolve. The most important thing is to ‘STABILIZE’ the baldness, that is, to stop the hair loss. This will be achieved on the basis of medication. Subsequently a transplant will be scheduled, this is once we have solved this initial problem. Of course, it is always necessary to individualize each case. Young people do not want to look like their parents, (talking about baldness) they are very demanding with high expectations and want to continue to look like their age mates. However, this will not be possible to achieve most of the time. We must be very frank and direct in our assessment. Our policy at Gardel is always to side with our patients, even not to operate if it is not convenient at the time, and to wait to see the results with medical treatment, for which we must properly instruct our young patient.

What we transplant is the ‘follicle’ which is the hair factory, this is better known as the ‘root’. So it is the follicle, or root, that will produce hair throughout its life.

Gardel will perform a transplant procedure taking care of the quality in all steps of the procedure and therefore we guarantee 100% intact hair and follicles, which will grow after transplantation. So yes, we do guarantee your results.

Actually, the person can return to almost all activities prior to the transplant. However, as a general rule, and in order to avoid complications (due to its surgical nature) it is necessary to take certain measures. In this sense, it is necessary to wait 5 to 10 days before engaging in physical activities (gym, running, sports, or similar) or activities that involve physical contact. This is because it could happen, by accident, that you receive a blow or affect the transplanted areas. But the answer is yes, you can return to work if your job does not involve physical activity.

As a general rule, and this is a prognosis, we will see 100% results after 1 year. The transplanted hair grows from the 3rd month (90 days approx.) and not all the hair starts to grow at the same time, our average scheme is as follows: at the 3rd month we will see 30% growth, at the 4th month 40%, at the 5th month 50% and so on.

This will depend on several factors, one of them is the degree of baldness and the more pronounced it is, the more hair you will need. Another factor is to take into account that baldness is evolutionary and unpredictable, which is why we insist that medical treatment to prevent hair loss is as important as hair transplantation, i.e. preserving the hair you already have. Let's not forget that a young man in his 20s with type 3 or 4 baldness will develop more advanced baldness and will need more than 1 session in the future. As many sessions can be done as the donor area allows!

The duration will be directly proportional to the amount of hair, the more hair is transplanted the longer it will last. On the other hand, the nature of the technique affects the time, i.e. the FUSS technique is faster and the FUE technique requires more time.

For transplantation at the same site we recommend no less than 8 months and in other areas we can do it in 2 months. When performing the FUE technique it is similar. The limiting factor is the growth of the transplanted hair, if it has not grown completely, we could damage it when transplanting on the hair that has not grown.

As it is a surgical procedure, yes, there will be a scar in any of the transplant modalities.
