treatments
 |
Up to the mid
80´s, the real causes for hair loss hadn´t been
identified yet. Therefore, many hair regrowth products were
offering uncertain remedy and non-effective results.
Some of these treatments
followed a scientific method to prove their effectiveness
and only a few laboratories took the challenge..
On the
other hand, some other types of treatment arose, such as:
Shampoos, soaps, lotions, massages, electromagnetic therapy,
and even outrageous remedies such as animal excrement and
urine! |
Treatment options
Nowadays, there
are drugs that have scientifically proven to stop hair loss and
to stimulate its regrowth including both topical and oral medications.
What can I expect
when using a treatment?
Both types of
treatment can offer good results, but it is important to realize
that they only stop and prevent hair loss from those areas that
still have regeneration capability. If your hair is already totally
lost, the only possible remedy is hair transplantation.

treatments
AVIXIS®
(Alfa-oestradiol)
|
If
slight to moderate Alopecia occurs (for both men and women),
Alpha-oestradiol helps by enlarging the Anagen period (when
roots produce hair). Daily application to the scalp is recommended.
When the situation improves, one application every 2 to 3
days is just fine. Results may be seen after the third month.
If continuing this treatment for more than a year, do so under
the supervision of a physician.

ROGAINE®(Minoxidil)

|
Originally,
Minoxidil was used to treat high blood pressure, but has been
found to increase hair growth, even in balding areas with
thinned hair or only a little fuzz.
When locally
applied, it appears to enhance blood irrigation and to stimulate
hair follicles to produce hair for longer periods of time.
It enlongs the hair growing stage, but it doesn´t work
over the hormonal nor hereditary effect.
It is effective
if used twice daily on the affected areas.
It comes
in two formulations: Rogaine 2% for women, and a stronger
solution, 5%, just for men.

TRICOMIN®

Triamino

and protein production, and contributing to a longer hair
growth period and producing thicker hair.
To obtain
better results, Tricomin hair care products may be used daily
and regularly.

When should
I expect to see the results of a topical treatment?
Consider awaiting
up to 3 months to see clear results of any topical treatment, this
is enoguh time for our hair to grow.
What if I suspend
the treatment?
If you do so,
hair loss will occur again; constancy is required to stop hair loss
with pharmalogical treatments.
oral treatments
PROPESHIA®
(Finasteride)
 |
This
drug lowers the DHT hormone levels by inhibiting its conversion
from Testosterone, blocking an enzymatic compound which is
necessary for its production (5-Alpha Reductase).
While diminishing
the DHT level, Finasteride prevents the sensitive follicles
from thinning and disappearing. |
This is a 1mg
tablet and must be taken daily, forever, if the patient doesn't
want to continue losing his/her hair
Results will
be noticeable on the 8th month or so. Optimal results are clearly
seen on people with thinning hair, with miniaturization; but not
so on people with advanced baldness (type VI and VII).
15% of people
who take Finasteride will continue losing their hair. Reports also
show that 5% of these patients experience loss of libido and erectile
dysfunction.
This drug was
firstly known as Proscar, and it was used in higher doses to treat
prostate disease.
Should Propecia be
taken after a hair transplant surgery has taken place?
This is a very
frequently asked question from our patients in Gardel Hair Restoration
Institute. Even when Finasteride is a good complement for a hair
transplant, it is, at the end, a personal option if the patient
wants to maintain the affected hair for a longer period of time.
Based on our
experience, transplanted hair will grow naturally and there´s
no need for any drug. We assure that your hair will grow throughout
your life because its follicle keeps a genetic code that resists
the DTH hormone that produces baldness. Our specialists carefully
select each capillary follicle to obtain a successful hair restoration.
Still, Propecia is useful for men who want to stop the progressive
loss of non-transplanted hair.
