Who are the best candidates for hair transplantation?
 Women with androgenetic alopecia (genetic baldness)
The main cause for this type of female baldness is genetic predisposition,
hormonal level variations (androgen) and advanced age.

Women who want to change or reinforce their line of implantation
Women with alopecia scars, meaning people who have lost hair as a
consequence of burning, scars, injuries or previous surgical procedures.
Who are not candidates ?
People with thinning or miniaturization of the donor area.
People with Diffuse Alopecia or Telogen Effluvium
This type of baldness is the one caused by chronic disease, emotional stress or
feverish illnesses.
People with Alopecia Areata (AA or spot baldness)
Alopecia Areata’s origins are unknown but its symptoms are very clear, it is
displayed in very clear round totally bald patches in the head area.
In the case of Alopecia Universalis (AU) hair is lost in the entire body.
There is still no treatment for these kinds of alopecia, the therapies most
commonly used for them are:
Topical corticosteroids, steroid injections or irritating agents for the excitation of
the follicles to stimulate growth.
People with Alopecia Totalis (AT)
This is when hair is lost in all of the scalp, like in the case of Alopecia Universalis
where hair loss occurs in all of the body, but in AT it is only lost in the head area.
People with drug related Alopecia
Vitamin A in great dosages, cytostatics, antithyroid agents, anticoagulants,
mercury and valproic acid can cause alopecia. When drug use is suspended, the
alopecia disappears.
People with Traumatic Alopecia
It can be caused by hair dryers, metal combs or any other object capable of
injuring the scalp.
It can also be self inflicted by a patient when in a manic depressive state, the
person rips his or her own hair out. This pathology is known as Trichotillomania.
Specialists have several solutions for women with androgenetic baldness,
hair transplant being one of the best solutions. Other solutions include some
medicines such as Minoxidil and Alfatriadol, as well as hormonal treatments such
as oral anti androgens.
IMPORTANT: Never initiate any kind of medical treatment without consulting a
physician first.
It is true that in some cases hair dye, ironing or different capillary lotions may
cause hair loss, this is not the case for women with androgenetic baldness.
This type of baldness is not related to the way you treat your hair, if you have
androgenetic baldness no matter how gently you treat your hair, the balding will continue.
If you are losing your hair density and you think you may have androgenetic
baldness, we suggest that you consult a specialist and avoid treatments which
will not work such as shampoos, capillary massages, laser treatments, etc.
In the event that hair thinning is accompanied by other symptoms such as
infertility, cystic acne, irregular periods, galactorrhea (secretion of breast milk
outside of maternity stage), you will have to see your physician.
Remember never to undergo any kind of treatment without professional medical
indications.
Ludwig Scale
The Ludwig Scale is equivalent to the Norwood scale (for men), but this one is
used to classify the degrees of female androgenetic baldness.
This is the Ludwig scale for baldness classification:
Hair loss is divided into three stages or categories:
Type I: Baldness is revealed as a light thinning of the hair in the central area of
the head.
Type II: In this second stage, weakening or thinning is accentuated and it begins
to move towards the crown area of the head.
Type III: The absence of hair is evident in the entire top part of the head.
